LittleBigPlanet has evolved a lot since the ‘big bang’ in October 2008. It’s easy to forget that some of the things we take for granted now, weren’t always there and with LittleBigPlanet PS Vita and LittleBigPlanet Karting on the horizon the LBP landscape is set for another shake-up. So ahead of that, I wanted to take a moment to pay homage to the numerous tools, features and other things which have had the biggest impact on LittleBigPlanet in the past four years: The “game-changers” of LittleBigPlanet.

As I’m pretty lacking in LBP creative juices, this top-five is written from my Player/Sharer perspective. I’m really interest to hear how other people’s lists compare to mine so after you’ve had a read, leave your thoughts in the ‘Join the Discussion’ section below.

Great article and I agree with your selection of “game changers.” Although, what about water? I think this was a big enhancement as well. You could expand this selection into a top ten “game changers” and include water, Hologram material, microchips and a few others. Man, when hologram material then later the sticker panel was realized, this opened a whole new dimension to the game. Making and animating your own sprites gave creators the opportunity to step outside the bounds of LBP and make their own game.
I wholeheartedly agree about and this may be my number one game changer. Having integrated with the game is just pure genius. Being able to queue levels from your PC and with the “play now” button? Forget about it, it’s the only way to play.

Yeah, water was on the shortlist but didn’t make it into my top 5 mainly because it isn’t used all that much. Same with the Move Pack.

Holo/sticker panel is a big one too. No doubt they’d be in my top 10.

Great idea for a post! I’d have to say, I agree 100% with your top 5. Especially being number 1. Although it isn’t actually something in the game. It’s definitely the best part about the game. :)

Too bad this cannot be a top-7 because I agree with all of your picks but would like to add these of my own: LBP2′s logic tools and Sticker Panel. The latter because that has completely changed the way I create and IMO is what holographic material promised to be.

Just happened across this post (it’s an oldie now). Regarding the extra layers exploit, LittleBigPlanet PS Vita does not use anything but the default 7 thick and thin layers. Not sure where you thought it was being used, but I promise it was just a trick to create the illusion of more depth. :)

What about the movie camera? This to me was the bread and butter to alot of great cut scenes and movies in this wonderful game.

That’s a good one. I conpletely forgot it wasn’t in LBP 1 (just Magic Mouths). Would be in my top 10 for sure.
