Back in October, I attended the Eurogamer Expo in London. It was a great opportunity to meet some members of the LittleBigPlanet community including GruntosUK, rtm223, jackofcourse and the guys and girls from Sackcast. Tom and Spaff from Media Molecule were also there to show-off LittleBigPlanet 2 and give out some free goodies. The thought of some LBP swag got me pretty excited until, the night before the event, the guys announced that if you wanted to get your hands on merch, you’d have to present them with something “artistic”.

The creative stuff isn’t really my strong point – hence 70 or so videos and only two actual levels. I was pretty devistated. So, at 10pm on Thursday night, the packing stopped and the brainstorming started. After about 10 minutes I gave-up on actually trying to craft something using my own hands and instead turned to technology. This was the result.

This mosaic is created from around 12,000 stills from the hours of LittleBigPlanet 2 Beta footage I had captured at the time. The full image is nearly 24,000 pixels wide and around 14,000 pixels tall. I used a piece of brilliant free software called AndreaMosaic to create it. Considering it was compeleted hastily at around 2am, I’m pretty pleased with it.

As it turns out, not too many printers are open at 7am so in the end I wasn’t even able to get it printed before I had to catch the train to London! Thankfully, Tom and Spaff took me at my word, and at the sight of a USB stick which I assured them held something awesome (but which was unfortunately useless without a laptop to use it with) and I bagged myself an awesome t-shirt and a handful of badges. Well worth it.
