It’s finally official: LittleBigPlanet Karting is coming! Following rumours and leaks last month, Sony made the announcement today along with this incredible trailer.
For the first time, LittleBigPlanet Karting will allow players to create expansive, 3D LittleBigPlanet worlds. Like it’s platforming predecessors, the game will feature competitive and cooperative multiplayer gameplay across plethora game modes and types including arena battles, mini-games, boss battles and of course, races.
What LittleBigPlanet 2 did with a “platforming game”, LBP Karting looks set to do with a “racing game”; with the new level editor, players will be able to create much more than just racing levels. The brand new Create Mode allows creators to build their own weapons and break free from traditional racing circuit into completely open environments. The trailer shows many goodies from LBP 2 will be available in LBPK including Bounce Pads, the Grappling Hook and Grabinators. Many of the costumes and materials shown are also from the previous games so there’s hope that, like LBP to LBP 2 and LBP 2 to Vita, there will be some crossover with the existing games. LBP.me compatibility has already been confirmed.
Development on LittleBigPlanet Karting is well underway at United Front Games – the studio behind ModNation Racers – who are working in conjunction with Media Molecule to release the game on PlayStation 3 later this year! There are currently no plans to bring LittleBigPlanet Karting to PS Vita.
I’m really looking forward to hearing more about this game!
